Fish Physiology and Cellular Metabolism

We aim to uncover how cellular energy drives the physiology of entire organism

Have you ever wondered how energy from cells scales up to power an entire animal?

From mitochondria to metabolism, the physiological links between cellular and whole-organism energetics are key to understanding animal performance and adaptation.

Our research focuses on cellular metabolism in fish, aiming to uncover how cellular energetics scale up to whole-animal energetics through physiological mechanisms. We are particularly interested in the role of key proteins that facilitate environmental adaptation, bridging the gap between molecules, cells, and organismal physiology. To achieve this, we combine molecular biology and spectroscopic techniques with respiration and growth measurements, creating an integrative approach that connects molecular processes to organismal performance. In parallel, we develop molecular tools to investigate how environmental factors influence metabolism and protein function—supporting aquaculture research and contributing to sustainable agricultural practices in a rapidly changing world.
